After months of rebuilding in silence, Jonine Scott goes public with her full story, a viral Medium article, and an $18,000 GoFundMe campaign to fund her move to Tennessee
LOS ANGELES - Californer -- Jonine Scott, a 70-year-old Los Angeles resident who regained her ability to walk after severe nerve damage left her wheelchair-bound, has taken a new step in her recovery by sharing her story publicly.
Scott recently launched a Mailchimp email campaign reaching about 900 subscribers, published a personal article on Medium, and began outreach across Facebook and LinkedIn to support her GoFundMe campaign, "Rebuilding with Grace." The campaign seeks $18,000 to help fund her relocation to Tennessee and support ongoing medical recovery.
From Silence to Storytelling
For months, Scott focused on rebuilding quietly while managing nerve pain, attending college courses, and preparing for a major life transition. Now she is speaking openly about her experience.

"I spent a long time rebuilding in silence," Scott said. "But silence doesn't get you closer to family or help you move forward. So I decided to share my story honestly and openly."
Her Medium article, titled "Rebuilding with Grace: At 70, I'm Starting Over — and I'm Not Ashamed to Ask for Help," began reaching readers nationwide shortly after publication.
A Transparent Campaign
Scott says transparency is central to her campaign. Her GoFundMe includes a breakdown of how funds would be used:
"I want people to know exactly where their support goes," Scott said. "I'm not asking for a handout — I'm asking for a chance to rebuild."
College at 70
While managing her recovery and campaign, Scott is also enrolled in college courses including Advanced Excel, Personal Finance, and College Composition while developing skills for remote administrative work and bookkeeping.

A Message for Others
Scott hopes her story encourages others facing sudden health challenges or financial setbacks.
"There are many people my age facing similar struggles," she said. "I want them to know it's okay to ask for help and to keep moving forward."
