After months of rebuilding in silence, Jonine Scott goes public with her full story, a viral Medium article, and an $18,000 GoFundMe campaign to fund her move to Tennessee
LOS ANGELES - Californer -- Jonine Scott, a 70-year-old Los Angeles woman who regained her ability to walk after severe nerve damage left her wheelchair-bound, has taken a bold new step in her recovery journey: going fully public with her story.
This week, Scott launched a Mailchimp email campaign reaching 900 subscribers, published a deeply personal article on Medium, and activated social media outreach across Facebook and LinkedIn — all in support of her GoFundMe campaign, "Rebuilding with Grace," which seeks $18,000 to fund her relocation to Tennessee and ongoing medical recovery.
From Silence to Storytelling
For months, Scott rebuilt quietly — attending college courses, managing nerve pain, and preparing for a major life transition. Today, she is telling her story openly and without apology.
"I spent a long time rebuilding in silence," said Scott. "But silence doesn't pay rent. Silence doesn't get you to your grandchildren. So I decided to speak up — loudly, honestly, and with everything I have."

Her Medium article, published February 24, 2026, titled "Rebuilding with Grace: At 70, I'm Starting Over — and I'm Not Ashamed to Ask for Help," has already begun reaching readers across the country.
A Campaign Built on Transparency
Unlike many crowdfunding campaigns, Scott's GoFundMe provides a complete breakdown of every dollar requested:
"People deserve to know exactly where their money goes," said Scott. "I'm not asking for a handout. I'm asking for a hand up — and I'm showing my work."
College at 70, Recovery in Progress
While managing her campaign, Scott is simultaneously enrolled in college courses in Advanced Excel, Personal Finance, and College Composition, and is developing skills in remote administrative support and bookkeeping.

"I am not waiting for life to get easier before I start building. I'm building while it's hard — because that's the only time I have."
A Message for Seniors Everywhere
Scott says her campaign carries a message beyond her own story — one for every senior facing hardship alone.
"There are women my age who are one health crisis away from losing everything. I want them to see me and know: it's okay to ask for help. Needing support doesn't mean you've failed."
