~ SACRAMENTO - As the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee approaches, California has taken steps to ensure the safety and security of all participants. In a press release issued by the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES), it was announced that 61 law enforcement officers have been deployed to Wisconsin through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC).
The request for these officers was made in May 2024 and is being coordinated by Cal OES. The deployment includes 40 members of the California Highway Patrol, as well as officers from Bakersfield, Fresno, and Long Beach police departments.
Governor Gavin Newsom expressed his support for this deployment, stating that "public safety transcends party lines." He also emphasized the importance of working together to provide a safe environment for all participants at the convention.
Nancy Ward, Director of Cal OES, echoed this sentiment, stating that it is critical to support law enforcement colleagues in Wisconsin and ensure the safety of everyone at this significant event. She also expressed confidence in California's well-trained and experienced peace officers to enhance security operations in Milwaukee.

The officers from California will be working alongside local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies at the event. Their responsibilities may include crowd management, traffic control, and ensuring public safety throughout the duration of the convention.
The EMAC is a cooperative agreement among states across the nation that provides mutual support during emergencies and planned events. This deployment is just one example of how states can come together to ensure public safety during important events.
In other recent news from California, 102 new CHP officers were sworn in on July 13th to serve and protect communities across the state. This is part of an ongoing effort by CHP to recruit more officers and make progress on their campaign.
Governor Newsom also announced appointments on July 12th, including Yuting "Yvonne" Chi as Deputy Secretary of Environmental Justice and Equity at the California Environmental Protection Agency. And on the same day, he met with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon to discuss climate and economic opportunities between California and New Zealand.
As the Republican National Convention draws near, California is taking proactive measures to ensure a safe and secure event for all involved. With the support of law enforcement officers from various departments, they are confident in their ability to handle any potential challenges that may arise.
