According to the California Constitution, the Governor has the authority to grant executive clemency in various forms such as pardons, commutations, or reprieves. The announcement comes as part of Governor Newsom's efforts towards criminal justice reform.
In addition to this news, Governor Newsom also announced appointments for various positions within his administration on November 27th. Erin Curtis was appointed as Executive Director at Strategic Growth Council while Rebecca Franklin was named Chief Deputy Director of California Housing Finance Agency.
These appointments reflect Governor Newsom's commitment towards building a diverse team that will work towards achieving his vision for California's future.
