Investor and author Steve Harmon invites the public to predict the future of AI and technology in a new interactive challenge based on his seven-signal Blueshift framework, with a forthcoming book endorsed by leading technology investors.

PALO ALTO, Calif. - Californer -- In 1997, Amazon was an online bookstore. Google was a research project. NVIDIA made graphics chips for video games. Today, their success seems inevitable. But how many people recognized what was coming?

Technology investor who helped build Google, entrepreneur and author Steve Harmon is challenging the public to find out.

The new Blueshift Challenge invites investors, entrepreneurs, executives and technology enthusiasts to make five predictions about the future of some of the world's most consequential companies.

Participants confront questions about whether Anthropic will become an operating system for AI, whether NVIDIA can maintain its dominance in AI computing, and whether OpenAI will capture the economic value of the technology it helped popularize.

Thirty Years of Recognizing Platform Shifts

The challenge draws on Harmon's forthcoming book, Blueshift, which introduces a seven-signal framework for identifying structural changes in technology, industries and economic power.

Harmon's experience includes leading the early investment in Applied Semantics, acquired by Google in 2003, whose technology became the foundation of Google AdSense.

"Everybody is brilliant about the future after it happens," said Harmon. "The real skill is recognizing the signals when an opportunity still looks improbable, incumbents look unbeatable, and experts explain why it will never work."

Unlike conventional quizzes, the challenge doesn't pretend tomorrow's winners are already known. It asks participants to exercise judgment under uncertainty and compare their reasoning with others.

Endorsed by Technology Leaders

The forthcoming book features a foreword by Vint Cerf, co-creator of the Internet, and endorsements from Reid Hoffman, Vinod Khosla, Steve Jurvetson and Tim Draper.

A Public Experiment in Predicting the Future

The challenge records predictions, allowing participants' judgments to be revisited as events unfold.

"Some of the smartest people in the world completely missed the Internet, smartphones, cloud computing and early opportunities in artificial intelligence," Harmon said. "The next shift is already forming somewhere. Can you recognize it before everyone else does?"

Participation is free and requires no account.
