City to Host Free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Event in West Long Beach

Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach is taking steps to support the Westside Promise, a 10-year community investment plan aimed at addressing challenges faced by West Long Beach. As part of this initiative, the city will be hosting a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) event for eligible residents.

The event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Silverado Park Community Center located at 1545 W. 31st St. It will offer free income tax preparation and individual tax identification number applications to qualifying taxpayers in Long Beach with an income level of $67,000 or less.

The VITA program is nationally recognized and sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to assist individuals and families with low-to-moderate incomes. This event is made possible through partnerships with various organizations including California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) VITA Program, U.S. Bank, Westside Long Beach Advocacy Group, Los Angeles County Consumer & Business Affairs and Free Tax Prep Los Angeles.

This event aligns with the goals of the Westside Promise Initiative - Financial Empowerment Commitment which aims to increase access to financial services, banking opportunities and financial literacy in West Long Beach.
