Point Loma Summer Concert Board Plans to Be Back at the Point Next Summer
SAN DIEGO - Californer -- Continuing COVID-19 concerns have led to the cancellation of this year's Point Loma Summer Concerts, but the members of the Board along with the sponsors have indicated that they plan to return in 2022.
"Unfortunately, even though Governor Gavin Newsom has announced that the tier system will be eliminated June 15, the "Blueprint" has not, and still does not, address outdoor gatherings such as ours," states event chairperson, Kerri de Rosier. "It only addresses events at venues in controlled environments with capacity limits — such as arenas and stadiums — where event attendance can be limited to a certain percentage capacity."
Joel Ellazar, the marketing director for the Point Loma Summer Concerts, mentioned that, "we have been incredibly proud to host the Summer Concert Series in our tight-knit community, and are disappointed that ongoing circumstances prevent us from providing the music and fun that we have been accustomed to…but we are looking forward to returning to the field next summer. These events are a valued community tradition, and we thank our residents and local businesses for their patience and understanding during this time."

The Board of Directors has appointed an internal committee that is actively working through various alternatives that may replace the in-person concerts with virtual concerts or daytime concerts to be held later in the year. The organization aims to support their ultimate mission of supporting music education in the community.
The Point Loma Summer Concert will continue to closely monitor COVID-19 updates and information based on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and the San Diego County Department of Public Health.

About the Point Loma Summer Concerts
Since 2001, Point Loma Summer Concerts has been bringing family-friendly concerts to Point Loma Park, with crowds swelling to nearly 3,000. The concerts are now a community tradition, with strolling teenagers who attended their first concerts in strollers. While many aspects of the concerts have changed over the years, the organization's ultimate mission is to support music education in the area's local schools.
