LOS ANGELES - Californer -- The Families In Schools (FIS) Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Yolie Flores as the new CEO/President of the organization effective January 4, 2023.
"Yolie is a champion for low-income families and children of color, as well as an outstanding and committed leader. During a time of rapid change within the educational landscape, she is the right choice to lead FIS as we move into a new chapter. We could not be more excited to welcome her." said Shamya Ullah, chair of FIS's Board of Directors.
Acting CEO/President Dr. Tommy Chang adds, "I am excited for the future of FIS. Yolie Flores will move the organization forward in its mission to involve families, caregivers, and communities in their children's education to achieve lifelong success. I have admired her for many years and she is the right leader for FIS at the right time."
Flores has dedicated her career to improving the lives of children and families. Throughout her 30-year career, she has held various leadership, management, consultant, and policy positions in city and county government, non-profit organizations, philanthropy, and in elected office. Flores has committed herself to lifting up families and helping ensure that all children, most especially children from low-income families, grow up with opportunities to lead rich and fulfilling lives. "Our highest responsibility as a society is to ensure that children do well in school and in life – a task that requires that we elevate and support the powerful role families play in the lives of their children," said Flores. "I am deeply honored to join Families In Schools – a leader in California and across the nation – to advance this task, build on its legacy, and take FIS to new horizons in its commitment to ensure equitable partnerships between families, schools, and community partners to ensure children are on the path to success, from birth through college and career."
