Harris APC launched the Process Server Project to crack down on process servers who engage in sewer service
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - Californer -- California residents who find that a default judgment has been entered against them may be victims of sewer service.
"Sewer service" is when a process server claims he served a person with court documents when he didn't. Instead, he threw the documents down the "sewer."
The practice is common among process servers hired by debt collectors because when the person who was allegedly served with process fails to appear in court, a default judgment can be entered against him. Once a default judgment is entered, the debt collector can garnish the person's wages.
