~ Kern County, California - Governor Gavin Newsom's 'California Jobs First' tour made a stop at a low-emissions cement plant in Lebec today as part of his efforts to create more clean jobs in the state. The visit comes just a week after the launch of a new economic framework that aims to double down on job creation in California.

During his visit to National Cement, Governor Newsom toured the plant and met with union workers and local leaders. The production of cement is known to be one of the most challenging industries to decarbonize due to the high heat required and specific chemical processes involved. However, National Cement has taken steps towards low-emissions operations and sustainable cement mixes, making it one of the first fully decarbonized cement plants in the nation.

The Governor also met with members of the Kern County Jobs First Collaborative to discuss local economic priorities and plans for creating more well-paying jobs in climate-forward industries. In a statement, Governor Newsom emphasized the importance of supporting all regions in California for a thriving economy.

"Last week, I visited Fresno and now I'm here in Kern County because California's economy only thrives when all our regions thrive," said Governor Newsom. "With these California Jobs First regional plans, we're hearing directly from communities across our state about their economic priorities and their visions for the future. We're doubling down and building a clean economy that will help power California for generations to come."

The recently launched economic framework, known as the California Jobs First Economic Blueprint, focuses on advancing the state's robust clean economy which spans multiple sectors such as wind energy, solar power, and carbon management - all key industries highlighted in Kern County's regional plan. National Cement's Lebec plant will play an important role in this clean economy as it continues to decarbonize its operations and expand into carbon capture.

One of the key sectors driving California's clean economy is clean energy. The state currently has seven times more clean energy jobs than fossil fuel jobs and is home to the most clean energy jobs in the nation. Governor Newsom is committed to creating even more of these climate-forward jobs, with a goal of doubling the current number of half a million clean energy jobs in the state.
