Creating Space for Underrepresented Filmmakers and Amplifying Marginalized Voices, Diversity in Cannes Announces 2023 Short Film Showcase Official Selections
CANNES, France - Californer -- Yolonda Brinkley, founder of Diversity in Cannes, the independent film movement promoting inclusion at the Cannes Film Festival, is pleased to announce official selections of the 2023 Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase, created to ensure marginalized voices and underrepresented filmmakers are seen, heard and celebrated at the world's most prestigious film industry event.
Presented by American Publicist and Event Producer, Yolonda Brinkley, with support from Academy Award Winner Viola Davis and Julius Tennon's JuVee Productions, the Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase will spotlight 28 films, of 200 submissions across 5 continents, selected by an international screening committee of diverse entertainment industry professionals. The competition was stiff. However, these films prevailed; 15 in competition and an additional 13 out of competition. A curated selection, will be screened in France during Diversity Day, concurrent with the 76th Festival de Cannes, while the entire slate will screen virtually as a part of a hybrid event. Winners will be announced onsite at an awards reception immediately following the showcase.
