A day of joy, gifts, and happiness: is it a shame that kind of love is only expressed two days out of a year?
LOS ANGELES - Californer -- By: Liam Westra of British News
"My bounty is as boundless as the sea, My love as deep; the more I give to thee, The more I have, for both are infinite." —William Shakespeare
In about 713 BC, the month of February was added to the Julian calendar. It was added by Numa Pompilius in honor of the Februa festival also called the Lupercalia. This festival was celebrated on the 15th of that month. According to Catholic Church ledgers, this festival included sacrifices of goats for fertility, and dogs for purity. There also was a lottery held for men to choose their future wives. But the ledgers also state that this lottery began the event called Valentine's Day. It officially started in Europe in the year of 496 AD. A Valentinus, someone chosen by a lottery. After the Lupercalia festival was outlawed; in the 5th century a Pope named Gelasius I from a region in Africa now called Tunisia renamed the festival to Valentine's Day. This holiday began to be practiced in the USA in the 1800's. According to Statista, in the year of 2021 Valentine's Day gross annual sales was 21.8 billion. Is true love in its raw form measured by finance, and gifts? Some studies reported by Business Insider quoted that 86 percent of couples that have gotten married in the last 5 years or will marry within a year proclaimed that finances was a major issue. But another study reported by a family law firm located in San Diego stated that most relationships, and or marriages ended, because of lack of commitment at a rating of 73 percent. Now in 2022, Los Angeles dating is taking a new approach for love; it's called Oystering or extreme dating. A day of love has to be more than a date.
