Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach Airport (LGB) is gearing up for a busy Thanksgiving week as travelers are expected to flock to the airport in large numbers. In order to ensure a smooth travel experience, passengers are advised to plan ahead and arrive early.
According to Mayor Rex Richardson, Long Beach Airport is committed to providing comfort and convenience for travelers during the holiday season. "Whether you're reuniting with loved ones or setting off on a seasonal adventure, Long Beach Airport is dedicated to making your journey as enjoyable as the destination itself," he stated.
The airport is anticipating an estimated 130,000 passengers during the 10-day holiday period from Friday, Nov. 22, through Sunday, Dec. 1. This represents an 8% increase from last year and is expected to be one of the busiest holiday seasons on record for LGB.
The busiest day of travel is predicted to be Dec. 1 with over 16,000 travelers passing through the airport. Tuesday, Nov. 26 and Wednesday, Nov. 27 are also expected to be busy days with over 15,000 travelers each day. These numbers are significantly higher than a typical November day at LGB, with an estimated increase of about 32%.

Cynthia Guidry, Director of Long Beach Airport, attributes the airport's easygoing atmosphere as a major factor in its popularity during the holiday rush. "Even during the busiest travel days of the season, we deliver a calm, cool and convenient travel experience," she said. "We have ample parking just steps away from the Ticketing Lobby and a relaxing indoor-outdoor concourse environment with local shops and restaurants."
To accommodate the large number of travelers, LGB will pause its Terminal Roadway Improvements construction project during Thanksgiving week so that all lanes will remain open.
For those traveling through LGB during this time period, here are some tips for a stress-free experience:
- Arrive 90 minutes early, especially for morning flights, to allow enough time for security checks.
- Drivers picking up passengers should wait in one of two free Cell Phone Waiting Lots located on the northwest and southwest corners of Lakewood Boulevard and East Donald Douglas Drive.
