Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach Economic Development Department is on a mission to support the next generation of workers by partnering with local businesses and nonprofits. The department is seeking businesses and nonprofits throughout Long Beach and Signal Hill to participate in their work experience programs for young people.
These programs aim to empower youth by providing them with real-world work experience, contributing to a stronger and more resilient economy, and creating opportunities for all. Selected businesses will have the opportunity to support Long Beach youth through jobs, mentorship, and training at no cost to their business.
Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his enthusiasm for the program, stating that "by investing in our young people today, we are cultivating the workforce that will drive our city forward tomorrow." He also emphasized the city's commitment to nurturing local talent and providing career pathways for youth to unlock their full potential.

The Department's Long Beach Workforce Innovation Network (LBWIN) Youth Career Services Center, formerly known as Future LB, will facilitate these work programs. These programs are available for young people between the ages of 14 and 30 and offer diverse roles in various industries such as healthcare, information technology, hospitality, and public service. Participants will receive an hourly wage for their work experience as well as personal enrichment training and professional development activities. The wages and workers' compensation insurance will be covered by the program at no cost to participating businesses. However, businesses must meet certain insurance and safety requirements.
Bo Martinez, Economic Development Director of Long Beach, highlighted the importance of providing meaningful opportunities for all young people in the city. "Now more than ever," he said, "we're encouraging our local businesses to open their doors and embrace the next generation of Long Beach workers."
