Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach Public Library's Mark Twain Neighborhood Library is set to undergo energy efficiency improvements in the coming weeks. The project, which is part of a larger Measure A improvements initiative, aims to extend the lifespan of the facility, enhance energy and operational efficiencies, and improve the overall user experience.
The library, located at 1401 E. Anaheim St., will temporarily close from Friday, June 6 through Tuesday, June 17 to allow for the planned upgrades. These upgrades include the installation of an energy-efficient heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system, including a new rooftop air conditioner and boiler, upgraded pumps and tanks, and associated electrical and structural improvements. These enhancements are expected to significantly improve the building's energy performance and reduce long-term maintenance costs.

During the temporary closure, residents are encouraged to visit other Long Beach Public Library locations for their reading, research and community needs. Digital resources such as e-books and online databases will still be available through the library's website. The Mark Twain Neighborhood Library is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, June 18.
Funding for this project comes from Measure A, a Long Beach ballot initiative that was approved by voters in 2016 as a 10-year sales tax to support public infrastructure and public safety services. In 2020, voters extended Measure A indefinitely. More information about Measure A can be found on longbeach.gov/measurea. This project is also part of Elevate '28, a comprehensive five-year infrastructure initiative aimed at revitalizing parks and community facilities while improving accessibility and multimodal transportation throughout Long Beach. For more information about Elevate '28, residents can visit lbelevate28.com.
For any additional information or inquiries about this project or Measure A in general, residents can call 562.570.7500. Media inquiries can be directed to Maurina Cintron at Maurina.Cintron@longbeach.gov, who serves as the Public Affairs Assistant for the Long Beach Public Library.
