Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The annual Youth Fishing Derby, hosted by the City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM), in collaboration with the Daniel Hernandez Youth Foundation and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, is set to take place on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024 at El Dorado East Regional Park.

This free event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is open to all youth and their families. Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his excitement for the event, stating that it is a great opportunity for local youth to engage in outdoor recreation and learn valuable skills. He also extended his gratitude to the Daniel Hernandez Youth Foundation and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife for their support in providing this opportunity for residents to come together and enjoy the city.

For over two decades, the Youth Fishing Derby has been a popular event for youth to learn about fishing while having fun outdoors. Participants will have access to expert fishing tips and have chances to win prizes such as fishing gear and gift cards. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. on the day of the event, with fishing starting at 9 a.m. A raffle will also take place at 1 p.m.

Children aged 15 years and under will be provided with free fishing poles and tackle to catch fish. However, those over 16 years old must have a valid California State Fishing License. The event is free for all participants, including vehicle entry into El Dorado East Regional Park.
