Background:To celebrate the San José metro area's rich cultural diversity and proud history of welcoming immigrants and refugees, the Refugee and Immigrant Forum of Santa Clara County (RIF) and the City of San José Office of Racial Equity invites you to an interactive World Refugee Day celebration. This event is held each year to recognize the struggles, resilience and contributions of the millions of refugees around the world who are forced to flee their homes and courageously resettle in new lands. Entertainers from a broad range of refugee communities will perform and attendees will be invited to learn and explore elements of these cultural traditions. Proudly celebrating its 30th anniversary, June 20, 2022 has been declared World Refugee Day by the United Nations, with hundreds of similar events taking place across multiple countries. In addition, the month of June has been declared Immigrant Heritage Month in the United States. Now a Certified Welcoming city, San José is proud to co-host this local celebration.
