Long Beach, CA ~ The City of Long Beach and First District Councilwoman Mary Zendejas are excited to announce the return of the Annual Día de los Muertos celebration in its original format as a festival at Rainbow Lagoon on November 1, 2026. This free, family-friendly event is a celebration of life and a way to honor and remember loved ones who have passed away.

Mayor Rex Richardson expressed the significance of this cultural celebration, stating, "Dia de los Muertos is a meaningful cultural celebration that allows us to honor our loved ones who have passed on and cherish our memories of them." He also emphasized the importance of celebrating the lives of past generations who have helped shape the city into what it is today.

The 2026 Día de los Muertos Festival will feature a variety of culturally rich performances, vendors, and a resource fair. Various city departments and community partners will also be participating in this event. After last year's cancellation of the Día de los Muertos Parade, this year's celebration returns to its original festival format, providing an opportunity for the community to come together in one central location.

Councilwoman Mary Zendejas expressed her excitement for bringing back this vibrant celebration to Downtown Long Beach. She stated, "This beloved celebration is a time to honor and remember those who are no longer with us while coming together as a community to celebrate culture, tradition, family, and love." She invites everyone to join in on this unforgettable experience along the Downtown waterfront.

The City is currently seeking organizations and vendors to participate in the festival. Nonprofit organizations and community groups can submit an application until October 23rd for consideration in the resource fair. The entries should be culturally relevant. Food vendors and retailers are also encouraged to fill out a vendor interest form by October 23rd if they wish to participate in the festival.

This event is free and open to the public. Día de los Muertos is deeply rooted in the traditions and cultures of the indigenous communities of Mexico and Latin America. The City encourages the entire community to come together for this grand celebration at Rainbow Lagoon, as family, friends, and neighbors continue these traditions in ways that are meaningful to them.
