SAN FRANCISCO - Californer -- Transgender.org, an international advocate for the transgender community, vehemently opposes the Ohio legislature's override of Governor DeWine's veto on House Bill 68. This bill represents a dangerous overreach by the state government into personal healthcare decisions, and threatens the well-being of some of the most vulnerable members of our society.
The action taken by the Ohio legislature is not just a political issue; it's a severe blow to human rights and basic dignity. Banning young transgender girls' participation in sports and denying life-saving healthcare to transgender youth is a clear violation of their basic rights that will not be without consequence. By disregarding the recommendations of major medical associations and continuing to push dangerous misinformation, the Ohio government is causing direct harm to families across the state and beyond.
As an organization dedicated to the empowerment and well-being of transgender people, Transgender.org stands in solidarity with the transgender youth of Ohio. We are deeply concerned about the detrimental impact this decision will have upon the mental and physical health of them and their loved ones.
