Two distinct albums in Spoken Word and R&B/Neo-Soul—completing a Shakespeare-inspired sonnet duology grounded in Black intellectual and literary traditions and reinterpreting Shakespeare through music and lived experience
LOS ANGELES - Californer -- Independent artist, writer, and Morehouse College graduate Michael Gilmore has released two concept-driven albums inspired by William Shakespeare, marking a bold and unconventional entry into the music industry at age 58.
His debut project, MICHAEL GILMORE: HIP HOP SONNETS – A Shakespeare-Inspired Lyrical Lecture on the Human Condition, reinterprets Shakespearean themes through spoken word and hip hop. His second release, MICHAEL GILMORE: 59 SEASONS LATER – Shakespeare-Inspired R&B / Neo-Soul Sonnets, expands that foundation into melodic storytelling rooted in contemporary R&B and Neo-Soul.
Together, the two albums form a cohesive artistic body of work that bridges classical literature and modern music—exploring enduring themes of love, power, time, identity, and the human condition through a personal and interdisciplinary lens.

"At 18, I was booed off stage. At 58, I returned with two albums," said Gilmore. "This isn't about perfection—it's about purpose, endurance, and telling the truth through art."
Fully self-directed, written, performed, executive produced, and independently released on media company TV HIP HOP LLC, both albums reflect Gilmore's commitment to ownership, creative control, and intellectual expression. He is submitting both projects for Grammy® consideration, positioning them as a distinct contribution to contemporary music through concept, narrative, and execution.
Gilmore's work exists at the intersection of music, education, and storytelling. As a Specialist in Higher Education and an English major graduate of Morehouse College, his approach reframes hip hop, spoken word, and R&B as literary and academic forms—presenting his albums as both artistic works and cultural commentary.
"This is not just music," Gilmore added. "It is interpretation, education, and lived experience."
