~ Sacramento - On February 6, 2026, Governor Gavin Newsom declared it Ronald Reagan Day in the State of California through a proclamation. The former president, who was born in Illinois but considered himself a Californian at heart, was honored for his contributions to the state and the nation.
President Reagan's sunny optimism and belief in the future inspired millions of people around the world. He began his career by working his way through college in the Midwest before becoming a successful actor. He then went on to serve as president of a major union, spokesperson for conservative causes, governor of California, and eventually president of the United States.
Despite facing an assassination attempt just 69 days into his presidency, President Reagan's energy and spirit remained unwavering. He played a crucial role in bringing an end to the Cold War and implemented comprehensive immigration reform that provided a path to citizenship for thousands of undocumented immigrants.
Governor Newsom acknowledged President Reagan's legacy and expressed gratitude for his family's continued work in supporting families affected by Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.
