~ In a recent press release, Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in multiple counties and cities across California due to severe weather events. The proclamation was made to support recovery efforts for five different storms that caused significant damage in Imperial County, Santa Barbara County, Santa Cruz County, Mendocino County, Sonoma County, Ventura County, and the City of Arcata.
The governor's office released copies of the proclamations for each individual storm, including the September Storm in Imperial County, the November Storm in Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz Counties, the December Storms in Mendocino, Sonoma, and Ventura Counties, the January Storms in Sonoma County, and the Arcata Fire in the City of Arcata. These proclamations will allow affected communities to access state assistance and resources to aid in their recovery from these disasters.

Governor Newsom also announced several appointments on this day. Russell Fong was appointed as Undersecretary of the Government Operations Agency. Fong previously served as Chief Deputy Director at the Governor's Office of Planning and Research.
In addition to these announcements, Governor Newsom also addressed recent developments regarding the Sable offshore pipeline. A California court affirmed state law while President Trump and Representative Wright continue to spread misinformation on behalf of Big Oil. The court ruled that Trump's illegal order on the Sable offshore oil pipeline does not supersede California's environmental laws.
Furthermore, Governor Newsom is demanding answers from Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. over his recent racist comments about "reparenting" Black children. The governor is calling for immediate action from HHS to address this issue.
As these events unfold, Governor Newsom remains committed to protecting California's communities and upholding state laws. For more information on active state emergency proclamations and other recent news from his office, visit their website.
