~ Sacramento, CA - Governor Gavin Newsom has officially declared September 15 to October 15, 2024 as "Latino Heritage Month" in California. With a population of over 15 million Latinos, the state recognizes the significant contributions and impact of this community on its history, culture, and economy.
In a proclamation issued today, Governor Newsom highlighted the diverse roots of Latinos in California, including Indigenous communities from Latin America and Africa. He also acknowledged their leadership, service, sacrifices, and vision that continue to enrich all aspects of American life.
The governor emphasized the importance of diversity as a source of strength for the state and its belief that all communities should have equal opportunities to thrive. To support this belief, California has implemented various initiatives such as investing in universal transitional kindergarten and community schools, improving college access and affordability, building affordable housing, protecting workers' rights, and creating pathways for students and workers to succeed in their chosen careers.
