~ In a recent court decision, federal immigration agents have been temporarily blocked from conducting suspicionless stops in California. Governor Gavin Newsom issued a statement today, applauding the court's decision and calling for an end to the Trump Administration's "chaos, cruelty, and fear" in regards to immigration.
The case, Vasquez Perdomo, et al. v. Noem, highlights the unlawful tactics used by federal officials in targeting individuals for detention and deportation. Governor Newsom stated that instead of focusing on dangerous individuals, federal agents have been arbitrarily detaining Americans and hardworking people, tearing families apart and disregarding due process and constitutional rights.
"Justice prevailed today," Governor Newsom declared. "The court's decision puts a temporary stop to federal immigration officials violating people's rights and racial profiling." He went on to criticize White House advisor Stephen Miller's immigration agenda as one of "chaos, cruelty, and fear."
