~ In a recent court decision, federal immigration agents have been temporarily blocked from conducting suspicionless stops in California. Governor Gavin Newsom issued a statement today, applauding the court's decision and calling for an end to the Trump Administration's "chaos, cruelty, and fear" in regards to immigration.
The case, Vasquez Perdomo, et al. v. Noem, highlights the unlawful tactics used by federal officials in targeting individuals for detention and deportation. Governor Newsom stated that instead of focusing on dangerous individuals, federal agents have been arbitrarily detaining Americans and hardworking people, tearing families apart and disregarding due process and constitutional rights.
"Justice prevailed today," Governor Newsom declared. "The court's decision puts a temporary stop to federal immigration officials violating people's rights and racial profiling." He went on to criticize White House advisor Stephen Miller's immigration agenda as one of "chaos, cruelty, and fear."

Governor Newsom also called on the Trump administration to follow the law and uphold the values upon which our country was founded. He emphasized that California stands with the law and will continue to protect its residents from unjust treatment.
In other news, Governor Newsom is urging Californians to take precautions as the state endures triple-digit heat and smoky conditions. He is encouraging residents to use state and local resources to protect themselves from heat illness.
Additionally, Governor Newsom announced that $11 million will be provided by the California Employment Development Department to help underserved job seekers find training and employment opportunities. This includes veterans, people with disabilities, and at-risk young adults.
Furthermore, as part of California's strategy to combat homelessness and expand housing options, Governor Newsom has restructured state agencies to prioritize housing affordability. This reorganization aims to institutionalize housing as a long-term priority for the state.
Governor Newsom continues to take action in addressing important issues facing Californians while standing up for the values and rights of all individuals.
