~ California continues to make strides in clean energy, with new data showing that the state's power grid has run on 100% clean energy for some part of the day nearly every day this year. This achievement is thanks to California's commitment to investing in new resources.
According to data compiled by the California Energy Commission, clean energy has powered the equivalent of 51.9 days in the state so far this year, representing nearly 30% of the year-to-date running on 100% clean electricity. This is a significant increase from last year and a 750% increase since 2022.
Governor Gavin Newsom expressed his pride in California's progress, stating, "The fourth largest economy in the world is running on more clean energy than ever before. Clean energy has met our grid's total demand for some part of the day almost every day this year – the equivalent of 51 full days powered by 100% clean electricity."
This achievement is a result of California's record-breaking installation of clean energy resources, including battery storage, which have helped make clean energy days a reality. Governor Newsom announced earlier this year that over 25,000 megawatts (MW) of new resources have been added to the state's electric grid over the past five years – an amount equivalent to roughly half of the state's record peak demand in 2022 and in addition to existing capacity.

In just one year, California added approximately 7,000 megawatts (MW) of new clean energy nameplate capacity – breaking previous records set in both 2022 and 2023 and marking a third consecutive year of unprecedented growth in clean energy.
Since Governor Newsom took office, battery storage has also seen a significant increase – up to over 15,000 megawatts, representing a staggering 1,944% increase.
This progress comes at a time when other states are facing disaster response efforts, and California is stepping up to support them. Governor Newsom recently announced that California will be sending additional resources to assist New Mexico, Oregon, and Texas in disaster response efforts, including incident support personnel and Urban Search and Rescue teams.
In addition to clean energy, Governor Newsom is also focused on keeping communities safe from impaired driving. He recently announced $35 million for law enforcement partners, local governments, and community groups tackling this issue.
As California continues to lead the way in clean energy and disaster response efforts, Governor Newsom remains committed to creating a better future for the state through investments in new resources and partnerships with other states.
