~ SACRAMENTO - In response to the rapidly burning Park Fire, Governor Gavin Newsom announced today that California has secured a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). This grant will provide additional funding and resources to help suppress the fire in Butte County.

The Park Fire, which is currently burning near the city of Chico, has already consumed over 45,000 acres and forced the evacuation of more than 3,500 people. Real-time information about road closures and evacuation centers can be found on fire.ca.gov.

The FMAG, which is provided through the President's Disaster Relief Fund on a cost-share basis, will allow local, state, and tribal agencies responding to the fire to apply for 75% reimbursement of their eligible fire suppression costs. This program is administered by the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) and provides rapid financial assistance to communities impacted by fires.
