~ SACRAMENTO - In response to the rapidly burning Park Fire, Governor Gavin Newsom announced today that California has secured a Fire Management Assistance Grant (FMAG) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). This grant will provide additional funding and resources to help suppress the fire in Butte County.
The Park Fire, which is currently burning near the city of Chico, has already consumed over 45,000 acres and forced the evacuation of more than 3,500 people. Real-time information about road closures and evacuation centers can be found on fire.ca.gov.
The FMAG, which is provided through the President's Disaster Relief Fund on a cost-share basis, will allow local, state, and tribal agencies responding to the fire to apply for 75% reimbursement of their eligible fire suppression costs. This program is administered by the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) and provides rapid financial assistance to communities impacted by fires.

In other news, Governor Newsom issued an executive order today directing state agencies to urgently address homeless encampments while respecting the dignity and safety of those experiencing homelessness. The order follows recent reports of encampments growing in various communities across California.
Additionally, Governor Newsom announced several appointments today including Tamara Chambers to the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board. Chambers holds multiple positions at LA General Hospital and brings a wealth of experience to her new role.
Finally, it was reported that over 8 million fentanyl pills have been seized in California in just six months with over 1 million being confiscated in June alone. The California National Guard played a crucial role in these seizures as part of their efforts to combat illegal drug trafficking. Governor Newsom commended their efforts and emphasized the importance of addressing the opioid crisis in the state.
