~ In the aftermath of the devastating wildfires that swept through Los Angeles, California Governor Gavin Newsom has taken steps to expand the ongoing debris removal efforts. In a letter addressed to FEMA, Governor Newsom's Office of Emergency Services Director Nancy Ward has requested that commercial structures and multi-family residential properties be included in the US Army Corps of Engineers debris removal program.

This request comes as part of Governor Newsom's efforts to expedite the cleanup process and help survivors rebuild their lives faster. Under his leadership, California has cut red tape and eliminated bureaucratic barriers, allowing highly trained crews to enter impacted communities sooner.

Typically, debris removal from private commercial property is the responsibility of property owners and is not eligible for federal programs. However, if this request is approved, it would expand the scope of cleanup to include non-profits, houses of worship, businesses, and multi-family housing structures.

With the deadline for assistance quickly approaching on March 31st, it is crucial for survivors to apply for aid from FEMA and complete a Right-of-Entry (ROE) form for no-cost debris removal. The US Army Corps of Engineers has also established a Debris Call Center to assist with any questions regarding private property debris removal.

Governor Newsom's actions have been met with support from federal partners who have provided over $2 billion in financial assistance for fire recovery efforts. This aid will continue until March 31st, giving survivors a chance to apply for assistance and track their submissions through county recovery and US Army Corps of Engineers pages.

In addition to focusing on recovery efforts, Governor Newsom is also looking towards preventing future fires by investing in California's creative economy. He recently welcomed Vogue World event to Hollywood where he promoted the state's proposal to double California's Film Tax Credit Program.

As Los Angeles continues its recovery process, Governor Newsom remains dedicated to restoring all parts of affected communities swiftly and safely. He urges eligible survivors to take advantage of the cost-free government cleanup service by completing the ROE form before the deadline.
