Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - As the month of May approaches, the City of Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine (PRM) is gearing up to celebrate Older Americans Month with a variety of free programming and events for adults ages 50 and older. This annual celebration, recognized nationally each May, aims to honor the contributions of older adults and reaffirm commitments to supporting their communities through inclusive and impactful programming and services.
Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his appreciation for the older adults in the community, stating that they are an integral part of Long Beach. He also emphasized the importance of celebrating their lasting contributions and reaffirming the city's commitment to supporting their health, social connections, and overall well-being. "We are dedicated to creating inclusive spaces where residents ages 50 and older can stay active, engaged, and valued throughout Older Americans Month and all year round," Mayor Richardson said.
Led by the Administration for Community Living, this year's Older Americans Month theme is "Champion Your Health." The focus is on prevention, wellness, and personal responsibility as key pillars of healthy aging. The theme encourages older adults to take an active role in their health.
