Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach residents can once again take advantage of the City's Holiday Treecycling program, which offers a convenient and responsible way to recycle live trees. From December 26, 2024 to January 10, 2025, residents can drop off their used trees at any of the 12 designated locations throughout Long Beach at no cost.
Each year, the City recycles approximately 200 tons of holiday trees into landscaping mulch. This equates to about 10,000 to 15,000 trees being properly disposed of through the Treecycling program. This not only helps prevent fire hazards but also reduces the number of illegally dumped trees in alleys and public areas.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this program by dropping off their holiday trees at any of the designated locations during the specified dates. The drop-off hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. A map of all drop-off locations can be found on the City's website.
The designated drop-off locations include popular parks such as Bixby Park and Cesar E. Chavez Park, as well as other locations such as El Dorado Park West and Long Beach Environmental Services Bureau.

To ensure efficient recycling, residents are asked to remove all decorations from their tree and take it out of its stand before dropping it off. Trees over 12 feet tall should be cut in half for easier handling. Flocked trees will be accepted, but artificial trees will not.
The City strongly encourages residents to utilize these drop-off locations instead of relying on regular refuse collection services after the holiday season. However, for those who are unable to visit a drop-off location, there will be a special collection on Saturday, January 11, 2025.
Residents with City refuse collection service must place their tree at their regular refuse collection location by 7 a.m. on January 11 to have it collected.
For more information on the Treecycling program, residents can visit the City's website at longbeach.gov/lbrecycles. Media inquiries can be directed to Dalia Gonzalez, Customer Relations Officer for the Department of Public Works, at Dalia.Gonzalez@longbeach.gov.
The City of Long Beach is committed to promoting responsible and sustainable practices, and the Holiday Treecycling program is just one way they are working towards this goal. By participating in this program, residents can help keep their community clean and green during the holiday season.
