Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach is excited to announce the grand reopening celebration of the newly renovated Martin Luther King Jr. Park Pool. The event will take place on Monday, June 23, 2025 at 11 a.m. at the park's swimming facility located at 1910 Lemon Ave. Community members are invited to attend and join in on the festivities.
The ceremony will feature remarks from Mayor Rex Richardson, Sixth District Councilwoman Dr. Suely Saro, and other city leaders. Following the speeches, there will be a ceremonial ribbon cutting to officially mark the completion of the renovations. Recreational swimming will also be available after the event from 1 to 3 p.m., along with scheduled swim lessons.
According to Mayor Rex Richardson, "We are committed to investing in and creating public spaces where community members of all abilities can gather, connect and enjoy the benefits of recreation and wellness." He also added, "We invite the community to join us as we celebrate these significant enhancements to our Martin Luther King Jr. Park Pool."

The project upgrades have focused on improving accessibility and enhancing the pool building's overall appearance. This includes refreshed interior features such as new restroom plumbing, locker room drywall repairs, and new paint and doors throughout the facility. The pool deck has also been repaired and waterproofed, with new plaster and tile depth markers added for safety.
In addition to these improvements, there have been upgrades made to the pool's circulation, filtration, and chemical systems. The diving stands have been refurbished and repainted while new battery-powered pool lifts have been installed for easier access for all individuals.
Sixth District Councilwoman Dr. Suely Saro expressed her excitement for the renovations stating, "I am thrilled to welcome the community back to our beloved and improved Martin Luther King Jr. Park Pool." She continued by saying that "This project reflects our ongoing commitment to investing in community-centered recreation facilities that are inclusive, beautiful, and modern."

The Martin Luther King Jr. Park Pool Upgrade Project was completed in two phases. Phase 1, which began in January 2023 and was completed in February 2024, focused on repairing and refreshing the facility's interior spaces. Phase 2, which began in February 2025 and was completed on June 13, introduced key accessibility features and enhancements to the entire facility.
Funding for this project came from Measure A funds totaling $1.85 million. This project is part of Elevate '28, a comprehensive five-year infrastructure initiative dedicated to enhancing Long Beach parks, community facilities, mobility access, and streets.
