Long Beach, CA ~ The City of Long Beach is gearing up for a fun-filled day of community building and engagement with their upcoming Neighborhood Spring Kickoff event. Hosted by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Marine, this free event will take place at Martin Luther King Jr Park on Saturday, March 22 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
According to Mayor Rex Richardson, the Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program aims to bring the community together and address local needs by fostering strong connections and social ties. The Neighborhood Spring Kickoff event is just one way the city is empowering residents to engage locally and make a positive impact in their neighborhoods.
Families can look forward to a variety of activities and entertainment at the event. From arts and crafts like flowerpot painting and kite decorating, to flower planting activities, kite flying competitions, candy guessing challenges, and inflatable sports games such as baseball, basketball, soccer, and football. There will also be obstacle courses and opportunity drawings for themed prize baskets including movie night, self-care, and STEM.

The Neighbor-to-Neighbor program is part of the California Volunteers network and is led by the City's Office of Climate Action and Sustainability. These events aim to empower Californians to take meaningful action in their communities by bringing neighbors together.
The program was launched in September 2024 with a $500,000 grant from the State of California through California Volunteers, Office of the Governor. The goal is to expand volunteer infrastructure in California and strengthen the statewide Neighbor-to-Neighbor network by recruiting, training, equipping, and organizing neighbors to address community needs. The City was selected as one of nine partner agencies through a competitive process.
