City of Long Beach to Offer Annual Holiday Treecycling Program

Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - As the holiday season comes to an end, the City of Long Beach Energy and Environmental Services Department is once again offering its Holiday Treecycling program. This initiative provides residents with an accessible and responsible way to recycle their live trees.

From December 26, 2025 to January 9, 2026, residents can drop off their used trees at any of the 13 designated locations throughout Long Beach at no charge. This annual program has been successful in diverting nearly 155 tons of holiday trees from landfills each year, which equates to approximately 10,000 trees.

Not only does this program help reduce waste, but it also prevents fire hazards and illegal dumping of trees in alleys and public areas. It is important to note that holiday trees cannot be disposed of in organics carts due to their weight and size.

To ensure proper disposal of holiday trees, residents are encouraged to drop off their trees at any of the designated locations during the specified dates and times. These locations include popular parks such as Bixby Park and Cesar E. Chavez Park, as well as other convenient spots like the Long Beach Environmental Services Bureau.

Residents are reminded to remove all decorations from their tree before dropping it off. Additionally, they should take the tree out of its stand and cut it in half if it is over 12 feet tall. Flocked trees will be accepted, but artificial trees will not be accepted.

The City strongly encourages residents to utilize the drop-off locations as it helps ease the post-holiday strain on collection services. This method ensures timely and efficient disposal of live trees. However, for those who are unable to visit a drop-off location, a one-time curbside collection will be available on January 10th.

Residents with City refuse, recycling, and organics service must place their tree at their regular collection spot by 7 a.m. on January 10th to ensure pickup. For more information on the Treecycling drop-off program, residents can visit the City's website at lbcity.info/Treecycling.
