- Why Long-Shots Matter: The Case for Funding Challengers in Every Race
Long Beach, CA ~ The City of Long Beach is looking to partner with qualified organizations to support the new Smart City Initiative program, the Long Beach Collaboratory (LB Co-Lab). The LB Co-Lab engages local Long Beach stakeholders in a collaborative community engagement process to scope and implement a pilot technology project. Participants are also taught technology skills to thrive in our "smart" economy.
Four challenge-based Requests for Proposals (RFPs) have been launched by the City, seeking to partner with a wide variety of highly skilled and innovative organizations to support the City's technological enhancements without prescribing a detailed scope of work and requirements. These RFPs are for Connectivity in the Ramona Park Neighborhood, Pedestrian Safety in the Hamilton Neighborhood, Park Utilization and Safety in the Westside Neighborhood, and Safe Streets in the Willmore Neighborhood.
The first RFP is for Connectivity in the Ramona Park Neighborhood. This RFP seeks an accessible, technology-based solution to provide efficient and reliable internet connectivity across the neighborhood's public spaces for residents, businesses and visitors. The second RFP is for Pedestrian Safety in the Hamilton Neighborhood. This RFP seeks a technology-based street improvement solution to promote pedestrian safety, enhance visibility, and encourage positive neighborhood experiences for community stakeholders such as residents, businesses and students.

The fourth RFP is for Safe Streets in the Willmore Neighborhood. This RFP seeks a human-scale, accessible, simple and non-threatening technology-based solution to promote pedestrian and cyclist safety and create a sense of community wellbeing for the Willmore neighborhood.
An optional pre-proposal meeting will be held on Tuesday June 20th at 1 p.m via Zoom where questions regarding these four RFPs can be submitted by 5 p.m on Friday June 23rd at rfppurchasing@longbeach.gov .
This program aligns with Goal 4 of Racial Equity & Reconciliation Initiative which aims to increase funding & other resources for technology efforts for resident workers & business owners & is made possible by Long Beach Recovery Act which funds economic & public health initiatives critically impacted by COVID 19 pandemic .
