SAN FRANCISCO - Californer -- Reedy Press is pleased to announce the release of our newest guidebook, Lost Treasures of San Francisco, by Maria Lenhart.
Few places evoke nostalgia more than San Francisco. Get a group of current or former residents together and you will hear stories of digging into a hot fudge sundae at Blum's, marveling at the giant Christmas tree at City of Paris, grooving to jazz at a Fillmore or North Beach club, braving the giant slide at Playland, catching a Giants game on a windy afternoon at Candlestick, or listening to the Grateful Dead at Winterland on New Year's Eve as impresario Bill Graham descends from the ceiling as Baby New Year.
These and many other bygone pleasures are captured in Lost Treasures of San Francisco, some even dating back to when the city was a raw, young Mexican village called Yerba Buena. There are many examples of survival and rebirth, especially those stemming from the dynamic new city that literally rose from the ashes of the 1906 earthquake and fire. And, of course, there are the city's indelible characters—Herb Caen, Robin Williams, the San Francisco Twins, Emperor Norton, Lawrence Ferlinghetti, and so many more who added to the city's bold and creative spirit. Join author Maria Lenhart for a tour into the city's past.
