What you need to know: At the annual California Peace Officers' Memorial Ceremony, the Governor recognized the sacrifice and service of California's fallen law enforcement officers.
SACRAMENTO – Honoring California peace officers who died in the line of duty in 2025, Governor Gavin Newsom today joined state and local law enforcement officers and community members at the annual California Peace Officers' Memorial Ceremony.
The officers we honor today represent the very best of California. They ran toward danger on behalf of people they didn't know. We recognize their sacrifice and the loved ones who carry that loss with them every single day. Their legacy is lasting — in the lives they saved, the communities they protected and the example they set for all of us.
Governor Gavin Newsom
The memorial ceremony included a "Walk of Honor" for surviving family members from the west steps of the Capitol to the memorial monument for the Enrollment Ceremony, where the names of newly enrolled officers were formally added to the Memorial Monument.
The following fallen officers were recognized:
Distant Past
Recent Past and Current Year
This solemn ceremony incorporates many law enforcement traditions, including a riderless horse presentation, the folding of the flag of the United States, releasing of doves, and concludes with a 21-gun salute and the playing of Taps.

This is the biggest reform of the California mental health system in decades and will finally equip partners to deliver the results all Californians need and deserve. Treatment centers will prioritize mental health and substance use support in the community like never before. Now, it's time to roll up our sleeves and begin implementing this critical reform – working closely with city and county leaders to ensure we see results.
