~ As California endures triple digit heat and smoky conditions, Governor Gavin Newsom is urging residents to take precautions and utilize state and local resources to protect themselves. The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories for many parts of the state, with some areas under Extreme Heat Warnings due to temperatures expected to linger into next week. In addition, air quality will be impacted by smoke from wildfires burning in remote areas of California and Oregon.

Governor Newsom emphasized the importance of being prepared for dangerous heat and unhealthy air during a press conference in Sacramento. He stated, "As temperatures soar across our state, I urge Californians to take precautions and utilize state and local resources to protect from dangerous heat illness and unhealthy air."

To help residents stay informed about local conditions, the recently launched CalHeatScore heat-ranking tool allows individuals to check their area by zip code for current heat levels. The tool indicates that much of northern and central California will experience moderate to severe heat through Monday, with some areas feeling the effects until Wednesday.
