LOS ANGELES - Californer -- "The Barack Obama Presidential Center Museum in Chicago are a landmark for African American politics and history," says author and political analyst Earl Ofari Hutchinson, "It has also sparked a major reinterest in African American literary and historical collections." The launch of The Hutchinson African American Classics Collection pays tribute to the Obama Museum Center and Presidential Library.
The Hutchinson African American Classics Collection was established in tribute to the Obama Presidential Center Museum. The collection opened for public display in tandem with the Obama Center Museum and presidential library on the Juneteenth national holiday, June 19. The Obama Center has acknowledged The Hutchinson African American Classics Collection. Hutchinson takes added pride in that. Hutchinson grew up in virtual walking distance-one mile- from The Obama Center Museum on Chicago's South Side.

The Hutchinson African American Classics Collection is wholly comprised of 0ne hundred first editions and first edition reprints of original classic works of literary, historic, and political works by or about acclaimed African American writers, historians, and political leaders from the 19th and early 20th century. Among the original editions are W.E.B. DuBois, The Souls of Black Folks, Richard Wright, Native Son, and James Baldwin, Another Country.
The AC Bilbrew Library in South Los Angeles is the prime site under consideration for housing of the collection. The library is the repository of one of the largest collections of African American works in the country.
"The Obama Presidential Center Museum and The Hutchinson African American Classics Collection," says Hutchinson, "are historic gems that will prove invaluable as educational and research aids into the varied facets of the historic African American experience for present and future generations."
