PETALUMA, Calif. - Californer -- Spectra Watermakers, a Katadyn Group company specializing in small-scale, energy-efficient desalination systems, is meeting changing market demand by providing 48V watermakers needed for the rapidly evolving electric, and hybrid trends in the latest yacht models.
Yacht builders around the globe are evolving their lineup to meet the demand for larger, feature-rich, and hybrid-powered yachts, utilizing the latest battery technology. These yachts operate on 48V systems, and Spectra Watermakers was the first to offer 48V, Energy Efficient Watermakers to meet this demand.

Spectra Watermakers now offers the Catalina 340 and all Newport model Watermakers equipped with Spectra Connect in a 48V configuration from the factory. Compact Membrane configuration is also available for Catalina 340 and Newport 400 48V. (Note that the remote manual option is not available in 48V currently).

Cam Collins of Peterson Marine Inc. provided his insight into the changing market "I would say that my customer's main motivation for selecting the 48V system is practicality. As 48VDC energy storage technology has become more readily available, we are seeing it used on more and more new vessels and retrofits. Having a native 48VDC water maker then becomes the practical choice. When you combine that feature with all the other aspects of a Spectra system, it really is a no-brainer. There is no need for DC-DC conversion, eliminating a potential failure point, something you absolutely don't want on a critical system. This introduction shows, once again, that Spectra is committed to keeping up with the needs of the industry and the boaters that we serve."

Catalina 340 & Newport 400 48vdc
These models currently utilize a high-quality voltage converter integrated into the chassis, along with the existing motor and motor speed controller used on the 12/24V models.
Newport 700 and 1000 48vdc
These models feature a new 48V motor and a new motor speed controller, which utilizes PMP3 for signal communications and is adjusted through the Spectra Connect display, like the AC models.
