CCI Health & Wellness Services offers families free flu vaccinations with socially distant Halloween fun
SILVER SPRING, Md. - Californer -- Silver Spring, MD—Community health center, CCI Health & Wellness Services, hosts Boo to the Flu—a pop-up vaccination clinic—to encourage the local community to get their flu shots and caught-up on routine immunizations. The two-day event, in partnership with Amerigroup, will also offer some COVID-safe Halloween fun for families.
"As health care providers focused on community wellness, we believe it is vital that we focus on prevention and keeping families as healthy as possible." said Dr. Sonya Bruton, CEO & President. "Boo to the Flu allows us an opportunity to meet our multiple aims of physical and emotional wellbeing by providing a small sense of normalcy with a fun Halloween activity while offering a free flu shot to all participants and updating vaccinations on existing patients."
The Halloween-themed event is inspired by the need to help families stay healthy as flu season ramps up. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) estimates there were more than 410,000 flu hospitalizations in 2019. With flu season now beginning this month, overlapping with an increase of COVID cases in the United states, getting a flu shot this year maybe more important ever.

"At Amerigroup, we know that people in the communities we support are looking for safe and convenient ways to get immunizations and help maintain their overall health. As an organization committed to supporting the communities we serve, we're proud to be a part of the Boo to the Flu program and hope families continue taking the necessary steps to stay healthy during flu season," said Vince Ancona, Amerigroup Maryland Medicaid Plan President.
The outdoor event will also include a socially distant trunk-or-treat staffed by CCI employees and a photo station for creating fun family memories. The pop-up vaccine clinic will be held at two CCI locations CCI-Greenbelt, located at 9220 Springhill Lane on Friday, October 30 from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM. A second Boo to the Flu will be held on Saturday, October 31 from 8:00 AM to 11:30 AM at CCI- Gaithersburg, located at 220 Girard Street, Suite 100. Trick-or-treaters are encouraged to wear costumes and come ready to roll-up their sleeves. However, masks and social distancing are required, as staff will be on hand to make attendees adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols.
