Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach Airport (LGB) officials celebrated the completion of the Terminal Roadway Improvements Project today, which has resulted in improved vehicular and passenger flow and additional enhancements for those with mobility challenges.
The project, which began in January 2024, includes Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) enhancements such as more curb space, crosswalks, ramps, signage, handrails and lighting in front of the main drop-off and pick-up area. These upgrades will not only improve traffic flow but also make the area safer and more easily navigable for pedestrians. In addition, some underground work was done to upgrade several utilities, including sewer lines connected to the Historic Terminal.
Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his excitement about the completed project, stating that it will make it even easier for travelers to get on their way. He also highlighted LGB's commitment to providing a smooth travel experience for over a century.

Fifth District Councilwoman Megan Kerr also praised the improvements, stating that they will benefit both travelers and pedestrians. She emphasized LGB's investment in modern infrastructure and its positive impact on the community.
The total cost of the project was $16.6 million, with $10.6 million funded by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), and the remainder funded by Airport revenue. This investment is expected to bring significant benefits to LGB's operations and customer experience.
Airport Director Cynthia Guidry expressed her satisfaction with the completed project, stating that it aligns with LGB's motto of "the going is easy." She also mentioned that travelers can now enjoy an even more convenient journey from curb to gate.
LGB is officially trademarked as "America's Coolest Airport™" and offers a stress-free journey with a first-class customer experience. Located between Los Angeles and Orange counties, LGB provides service to 22 nonstop destinations through carriers such as Southwest Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and Hawaiian Airlines. Additionally, it offers one-stop service to nearly 400 cities worldwide.
