Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach residents and visitors can look forward to a summer filled with free, family-friendly fun and active water play as the City of Long Beach announces the opening of the popular inflatable "Wibit" aquatic playgrounds at Alamitos Beach and Bay Shore Avenue on Friday, June 13, 2025.
According to Mayor Rex Richardson, the return of these aquatic playgrounds is highly anticipated by families in the community. He stated, "These free, fun and active amenities reflect our commitment to providing accessible recreation for all residents and visitors, right on our beautiful beaches."
The Alamitos Beach Wibit, located south of Ocean Boulevard and east of Shoreline Drive, offers a variety of floating play structures including springboards, bouncers, monkey bars and other elements that encourage water play. Meanwhile, the Bay Shore Avenue Wibit at 5415 East Ocean Blvd. features multiple climbing structures, bouncers and domes. Both locations will be supervised by Long Beach Lifeguards daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Councilwoman Cindy Allen from the Second District expressed her excitement for the return of these inflatable play structures. She said, "We're thrilled to welcome everyone back to the Wibit playground for another exciting summer season at Alamitos Beach. These structures offer a safe and engaging way for people of all ages to enjoy our Long Beach waterfront while climbing, jumping and having fun in the water."

Third District Councilmember Kristina Duggan also shared her enthusiasm for bringing back this beloved summer tradition at Alamitos Bay. She stated, "We continue to improve Alamitos Bay's recreational amenities, and we're proud to bring family-friendly activities that bring joy to our residents and visitors alike."
However, there are some rules that must be followed by all participants at both aquatic playground locations. All individuals are required to pass a swim test before accessing any waterplay features. Children under the age of 9 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, and life jackets or personal floatation devices are not allowed while using the waterplay features.
The City reminds everyone that aquatic-based recreation can be dangerous and encourages all users to exercise caution and follow all posted rules. They also state that using these water play structures can be challenging and strenuous, and the City assumes no liability for any injuries sustained while using them. Additionally, lifeguards may not always be on duty if they are called to an emergency.
