Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The City of Long Beach is excited to announce the opening of the popular inflatable "Wibit" aquatic playgrounds at Alamitos Beach and Bay Shore Avenue on Friday, June 14, 2024. These waterplay structures will offer residents and visitors free, family-friendly fun and active water play all summer long until Monday, Sept. 2.
According to Mayor Rex Richardson, these aquatic playgrounds have been a hit with families and have enhanced recreation at the City's beaches. "I am thrilled to welcome back Long Beach's Wibit playgrounds this year and provide our residents with free and enjoyable water activities over the summer," he said.
The Alamitos Beach Wibit is located south of Ocean Boulevard and east of Shoreline Drive. It features multiple floating play structures such as springboards, bouncers, monkey bars, and other elements that encourage water play. The Bay Shore Avenue Wibit, located at 5415 East Ocean Blvd., includes multiple climbing structures, bouncers, and domes.

Vice Mayor and Second District Councilwoman Cindy Allen expressed her excitement for the return of these fun floating structures at Alamitos Beach. "Residents have been eagerly waiting for their comeback all year," she said. "I'm glad they are back for the summer, and I look forward to seeing everyone climbing, jumping, and having a blast in the water."
Third District Councilmember Kristina Duggan also shared her enthusiasm for the Bay Shore Wibit at Alamitos Bay. "This attraction draws residents and visitors alike to enjoy free summertime fun on these fantastic floating playgrounds," she said. "It's another great addition to Alamitos Bay along with a new concession stand, swim ladders, and swim distance buoy markings."
To ensure safety for all participants during Long Beach Lifeguard supervised hours of operation (daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.), the following rules apply at both aquatic playground locations:

- All participants, including adults and children, must pass a swim test before accessing the waterplay features.
- Children under 9 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- The use of life jackets and personal flotation devices is not allowed while utilizing the waterplay features.
The City reminds all users that aquatic-based recreation is a naturally dangerous activity and encourages everyone to exercise caution and follow all posted rules. Using a waterplay structure can be challenging and strenuous, and the City assumes no liability or responsibility for any injuries sustained while using the playgrounds. Additionally, lifeguards are not guaranteed to be on duty if they are called to an emergency.
