New event in Nashville invites advanced amateur pianists onto a prominent, jury-evaluated stage—honoring lifelong artistry at the highest level.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Californer -- Nashville, TN — The Nashville International Chopin Piano Competition is proud to announce the launch of its First Amateur Edition, to take place in October 2026 in Nashville, Tennessee.
This new initiative was born out of an extraordinary response from amateur pianists across the United States and around the world. Over the years, the competition has received a remarkable number of emails from passionate musicians seeking a U.S.-based Chopin competition created specifically for amateur pianists—one that values artistry, depth, and musical integrity at the highest level.
"For years, we have received deeply moving messages from amateur pianists asking for a meaningful artistic platform in the United States where they could share their devotion to Chopin," said Graciella Kowalczyk, Artistic Director and co-founder of the Nashville International Chopin Piano Competition. "These musicians pursue music alongside full lives and careers, yet their commitment to artistry is profound. This new edition is our way of honoring that dedication."

"As someone who transitioned from a life in piano performance into finance and business, it's deeply meaningful to me that this Amateur Edition gives devoted pianists a serious artistic home—because the love of music doesn't end when your career goes in a new direction," said Joshua Izzard, Administrative Director and co-founder.
The launch of the First Amateur Edition also reflects a growing need within the international piano community for thoughtfully designed opportunities that support lifelong musicianship. With changes in the competitive landscape, the Nashville International Chopin Piano Competition recognized a unique moment to create a space where advanced amateur pianists can gather, perform, and be celebrated.
The competition will welcome amateur pianists of all ages and backgrounds, offering a refined and supportive environment rooted in artistic excellence. Repertoire will consist of standard solo piano works, including a mandatory requirement of two compositions by Frédéric Chopin, encouraging performers to showcase both individuality and stylistic authenticity.
