NOVI, Mich., March 20, 2025 ~ In a recent vote, over 8,700 workers represented by the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division (BMWED) of the Teamsters Rail Conference have ratified a new contract with the National Carriers' Conference Committee (NCCC). This decision was made after BMWED workers from more than 20 railroads came together to bargain as part of the NCCC.
The BMWED workers, who include welders, track inspectors, electricians, and other essential roles in ensuring efficient train operations, expressed their satisfaction with the new contract. "Our members come from railroads of all classes from Los Angeles to Pennsylvania and everywhere in between," stated Tony Cardwell, President of the BMWED. "By coming together, they were able to secure a great contract that will provide them with security and stability for years to come."

Under this new agreement, workers from these railroads will receive guaranteed raises of 17.5 percent over the life of the contract. They have also negotiated for stronger benefits such as increased paid vacation time and improved healthcare coverage.
This successful negotiation follows other significant agreements made by the BMWED in the past year with CSX and Norfolk Southern, covering over 16,000 members. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters, founded in 1903, represents 1.3 million hardworking individuals in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.
