This new campground, a joint venture between Tobu Railway and Cross Project Group, brings a "new camping style," to Takatoku-Nakaiwa River Park in Nikko City. Travel there by train and bring nothing with you! It's a "Rent it All" site.
KINUGAWA, Japan - Californer -- On May 1, 2024, Tobu Railway and Cross Project Group, Inc. – with expertise in operating outdoor businesses across Japan – opened "Nikko Takatoku Camping Station" at Takatoku-Nakaiwa River Park in Nikko City, near Shin Takatoku Station on the Tobu Kinugawa Line. Up to 70 families and groups can easily enjoy unburdened camping with their "Rent it All" policy at the site, which allows campers to just come as they are with the clothes on their back, with all other necessities completely provided.
In other words, while it is common for campers to fill their automobiles with extensive camping gear, this Camping Station offers a new style of camping, where even novice campers can arrive by train unencumbered and rent a full lineup of camping equipment and other items onsite.

The facility has excellent accessibility. Tobu railway passengers simply alight at Shin Takatoku Station on the Tobu Kinugawa Line, just 120 minutes from Asakusa Station and 100 minutes from Kita Senju Station in Tokyo. The campground is ideally situated, allowing visitors to both view the Nikko mountain range and enjoy watching unique trains such as the modern "Spacia X" and the steam locomotive "SL Taiju" as they cross the Kinugawa River Bridge. They can also listen to the nostalgic train whistles from close proximity.
Tourist attractions along the Tobu Kinugawa Line, include: " Nikko Edomura Wonderland," "Tobu World Square," and the luxurious hot springs of "Kinugawa Onsen." Nearby are the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Nikko, including Toshogu Shrine, which can be easily reached by transferring at Shimoimoichi Station to the Tobu Nikko Line and getting off at Tobu Nikko Station. Visitors can enjoy a wealth of sightseeing before and/or after their camping trip.
