Long Beach, CA ~ Long Beach, CA - The Long Beach Public Library (LBPL) is excited to announce the launch of its annual Summer Reading Program, "Level Up at the Library," on Saturday, June 14. This program invites readers of all ages to embark on a summer of adventure by reading, completing activities, and attending special events and programs at any of the 12 LBPL locations. The program will run until Saturday, August 9.
Mayor Rex Richardson expressed his enthusiasm for the program, stating that "Summer Reading is a fantastic opportunity for families to connect, learn and grow together." He also emphasized the city's dedication to education and community engagement, ensuring that residents of all ages have access to valuable learning experiences throughout the summer.
Participants in the Summer Reading Program can earn incentives for every five books read if they are 12 years old or younger. For those who are 13 years or older, an incentive will be given for every book read. Additionally, children who read at least 10 books and teens or adults who read two books will be entered into a drawing for a grand prize. The more books read, the more chances participants will have to earn incentives.

She also highlighted the library's goal of providing opportunities for community members to experience the joy of reading and participate in engaging programs.
The program will kick off on Saturday, June 14 with a special performance by The Alley Cats at Billie Jean King Main Library (200 W Broadway) at 11 a.m. The group will be performing their popular Do Re Mi of Doo-Wop show. Throughout the summer, there will be various other events taking place as part of Summer Reading. Residents are encouraged to check LBPL's events calendar for updates.
Residents can register for Summer Reading starting on June 14, either in person at any Library location or online at longbeach.beanstack.org. While registration will be open throughout the program, early registration increases opportunities to earn rewards.
The Summer Reading Program is made possible thanks to the generous support of the Long Beach Public Library Foundation, Port of Long Beach, and Friends of the Long Beach Public Library. In addition to the reading program, all LBPL locations will also be hosting free, family-friendly events such as magic shows, juggling performances, and wildlife encounters throughout the summer. Teens and adults can also participate in the Library's Maker Challenge at The Studio, where they can explore creative expression and earn exclusive prizes. More information about these events can be found on lbpl.org.
