The Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services hosts many affordable, year-round camps that provide full-day experiences for youth while school is out. Parents have come to rely on these safe, supportive environments for youth to continue learning during school breaks and the summer. The "President's Break Camp San José" at Almaden, Bascom, Berryessa, Camden, Millbrook, Southside, Roosevelt, and Willow Glen community centers hosted close to 300 campers, ages 5-12. Highlights from this year's camp include Southside campers creating stop motion animation projects and Roosevelt campers connecting with older adults in a Gen2Gen karaoke event before enjoying a healthy yogurt parfait party. The children participated in a fun-filled week of activities that are aligned to the California Quality Standards for Expanded Learning, adopted by PRNS in 2013. These state-approved best practices ensure quality out-of-school programs that have a positive impact on youth. More camps are to come across the city at community centers and regional parks.
