As Thiel College students look forward to returning to campus for the fall semester, plans are underway to collaborate with a local VFW post to determine how the college ties to Camp Reynolds and WWII.
GREENVILLE, Pa. - Californer -- Thiel College students, faculty and staff members will begin a project, which will also include collaboration with a local Veterans of Foreign Wars post, next year to research the College's connection and role in Camp Reynolds and World War II.
Professor of History David Buck, Ph.D., Reference Librarian for Instruction Tressa Synder and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of the College Elizabeth Frombgen, Ph.D., were awarded a $10,000 Humanities Research for the Public Good Grant by The Council for Independent Colleges for there proposal, "Role of Thiel College (https://www.thiel.edu/) and Camp Reynolds in World War II."

According to Buck, the project will take place from July 2021 to May 2022. Buck and Synder will work with three students on examining the role of Thiel and Camp Reynolds during World War II. It will build on the Thiel College Veterans Project and begin incorporating the surrounding area. Buck and students in his research methods class have been working the past few years to document every veteran with a connection to the College.
