Cattle grazing was reintroduced here for the first time in five years, and viewing these rare, brown Swiss cattle is now a relaxing pastime for Park Visitors.

NIKKO, Japan - Californer -- In order to maximize the tourism value of Nikko's "International Eco-Resort," the Tobu Group is enhancing the tourism experience through regional cooperation. As part of these efforts, Tobu Railway's Kogyo division has renovated and reopened Kotoku Farm, a unique cattle farm in Nikko National Park. Cattle grazing is being held at Kotoku for the first time in nearly 5 years, and these specific species are a rare, brown, Swiss breed, of which only 2,000 exist in Japan!

This area, surrounded by the three sacred peaks of Nikko - Mt. Nantai, Mt. Nyoho, and Mt. Taro – as well as the Senjogahara marshlands, has beckoned outdoor enthusiasts in all seasons. Summer calls out to birdwatchers and hikers, while winter welcomes cross-country skiers and snowshoers. The nearby Nikko Astraea Hotel's therapeutic open-air hot spring baths are a draw year-round.

With the reopening of Kotoku Farm, visitors can now spend a relaxing time gazing at the cattle, sitting on benches made from fallen trees, and just enjoying the view, while immersing themselves in nature. The farm also features restaurants and ice-cream stands, so relaxation extends to their taste buds and stomachs.

Tobu Railway will continue to renovate the area in phases. The goal is to revitalize the whole region as a tourist center in Oku-Nikko.
