~ Sacramento County - Governor Gavin Newsom and other California leaders will be hosting a press event tomorrow in Sacramento with Texas Democrats who have broken quorum to fight against the GOP's map-rigging tactics. The event will also include Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren, Senate President pro Tempore Mike McGuire, and Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas.

The press event comes as Donald Trump and Texas Republicans continue to push for rigged congressional maps in an attempt to seize power before the 2026 election. In response, Governor Newsom and other state leaders have been working to counter these efforts and protect democracy.

During the event, Governor Newsom and the other leaders will discuss their efforts to combat Republican gerrymandering. One potential solution that has been proposed is a statewide ballot measure that would reaffirm California's commitment to independent redistricting and allow for temporary adjustments to the state's congressional map if other states, such as Texas, engage in gerrymandering.

Furthermore, the Governor has announced a crackdown on organized retail theft, which has resulted in over 700 arrests and the recovery of nearly $8 million worth of stolen goods so far this year. This effort is led by the state's CHP-led Organized Retail Crime Task Force.

As California continues to make strides in protecting democracy and preparing for the future, Governor Newsom remains committed to ensuring the state's success and progress.
