SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Californer -- It's an age-old question that bedevils us all.

We are overwhelmed by endless choices for our next meal — by endless beautiful food blogs and tempting restaurants and cuisines from around the world.

And yet every day we agonize over the decision, only to end up with the same old comfortable take-out or well-worn recipe.

So what can we do about it?

Random Cooking (https://random.cooking) now offers a solution to anyone who is moderately creative in the kitchen and willing to commit to a challenge. Just press a button on the website and voila: you've got a set of ingredients to work with.

It's up to you what you do with them. Research your cookbooks and websites for matching recipes? Improvise something new in the kitchen? Turn them into a gourmet five-course dinner or toss them all together on a sheet pan?
